The main goal of this interdisciplinary project topic is the development of custom tailored fibrous scaffolds for the culture of skin and ocular cells. The fabrication of the scaffolds is based on the electrospinning technique. The innovation basis on the combination of both solution and melt electrospinning with additional target functionality development. Thus the specific scientific objectives of the project are as follows:
Physical aspect: Fabrication of dual porous scaffolds with the aid of multi patterned metal collectors and combined solution and melt electrospinning.
- The scaffolds will be prepared by the alteration of both solution and melt electrospun layers with target electrospun surface topography to enhance cells adhesion and spreding.
Chemical aspect 1 – antibacterial feature: Fabrication of multi shaped(sized) antimicrobial nanoparticles filled fibrous scaffolds.
- The scaffolds will be fabricated with the incorporation of antibacterial particles (nano, micro and nanotubes) directly in the polymer solution or melts.
Chemical aspect 2 – cellular processes stimulating feature: Fabrication of scaffold with controlled pace growth factor release for skin and ocular tissues repair.
- The scaffolds will be fabricated with the incorporation of cells growth factors directly in the polymer solution or melts.
Multifunctional feature: Fabrication of scaffolds with selected optimal architecture, antibacterial and cellular processes stimulating property.
- The scaffolds will be fabricated with the incorporation of both antibacterial particles and cells growth factors additionally to the custom designed dual porous structure.
The indirect objectives of this project proposal are as follows:
Promotion of the Croatian science through the realization of internationally popular scientific research.
Gain of new knowledge and knowledge transfer to target groups.
Development of young researcher careers and education of young researchers.
